Bride Rides Lawn Tractor At Navin Field For Baseball-Themed Wedding

DETROIT (WWJ) - The bride wore white and tennis shoes, the groom a Detroit Stars jersey -- as a couple got married in style over the weekend at the site of the old Tiger Stadium.

WWJ's Sandra McNeill reports from Michigan and Trumbull.

Sarah Aittama rode in from center field on a riding lawn mower to second base. She walked the rest of the way under a baseball bat arch similar to the Marines tradition of the saber arch.

Her husband Tom Derry founded the Navin Field Grounds Crew that takes care of the field for free.

Derry says the wedding location was his wife's choice.

"Not only have we had so many good times here, and met so many great people so many great friends, it's just the perfect place for us to exchange our vows and start a new chapter in our lives," said the new groom.

"I had a tear in my eye. I've known them for years. From working on the field now, they are both outstanding, outstanding human beings, and to see them get married here -- it's a big thrill," said Joe Michnuk, a field crew member.

"The Bridal Chorus" was played on trumpet during the processional. Guests snacked on popcorn, peanuts and cracker jacks during the ceremony.
