Boy Takes Joyride During Shopping Trip, Crashes Through Front Of Store [PHOTOS]

FARMINGTON HILLS (WWJ/AP) - Police say a boy who took a car on a joyride while his mother went shopping ended up crashing through the front of a children's clothing store in Oakland County.

No one was injured Thursday evening in the crash at the Carter's store off Orchard Lake Road and 14 Mile Road in Farmington Hills.

Police Sgt. Mike Flatt tells The Detroit News that the boy, who had been asked to stay in the car, started driving around the parking lot before eventually putting the car in reverse and backing into the store. The car ended up well inside the building, toppling merchandise.

Flatt says it was a "lucky situation" that there were few customers inside the store at the time.

No one was injured, but damage to the store is extensive.

The boy was sent home with his mother. Prosecutors are expected to review the case for possible juvenile charges.

Police have not released the boy's age but WJBK-TV reported he is 12 years old.
