Boy Rushed To Hospital In Unstable Condition After Being Mauled By Family Dog

AUGUSTA TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - Authorities say a 10-year-old boy is hospitalized after being attacked by a dog at a home in Washtenaw County.

The attack happened around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at a home in the 8800 block of Stoney Creek Road in Augusta Township, just south of Ann Arbor.

The child had broken bones in his arm and wounds to his face, but was able to get to a neighbor's home for help. An off-duty firefighter helped the boy before an ambulance arrived.

"When we got there, the dog had been contained and we focused on the child's injuries," Joyce Williams, a spokesperson for Huron Valley Ambulance, told WWJ's Charlie Langton. "We transported him to the U of M Mott Hospital in unstable condition."

Reports described the dog as a pit bull and the family pet.

The child's current condition is unknown.

Police say the incident remains under investigation.
