Boy Found Unresponsive In Murky Unused Swimming Pool In Southfield

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - Authorities say a 5-year-old boy remains hospitalized after he was pulled unresponsive from the murky, algae-filled water of an unused swimming pool in Southfield.

Police say officers responded around 4:45 p.m. Monday to a home on 9 Mile and Berg roads after receiving a 911 call that a child had possibly fallen into a swimming pool.

According to reports, the pool hadn't been used in years and was full of mucky water. Officials used search poles and recovered the boy after a reported 15 minute search. He was not breathing when pulled from the pool and was rushed to a local hospital. His condition remains unknown.

Authorities haven't yet said how long the child was in the water.

Other circumstances surrounding the incident weren't immediately clear.

An investigation is ongoing.
