He's facing charges including assault with intent to commit criminal sexual conduct, and assault with intent to murder - which carries a life sentence.

A plea of not guilty was entered in the Romulus courtroom on Winfield's behalf by the magistrate.

"Yes, ma'am." The two-word reply from Winfield when asked if he understood the charges.

Police say two assaults linked to the case happened on Radnor Street; and another nearby on Haverhill near Mack Ave. and Moross. All three involved home invasions. Police said a fourth incident that could be connected involved a woman who was attacked while walking at Mack and Cadieux in Grosse Pointe Park.

Craig said all of the assaults happened within a one-mile radius; the first one during the second week of December and the last on Thursday.

The assailant, police said, used a kitchen knife in his attacks — in one case stabbing his victim.

Cops say he took off on foot when a woman called for help.

A $1 million cash bond was set and Winfield will be back in court on Jan. 19.
