Bomb Squad Called After Shopper Spots Suspicious Device Outside Dearborn PetSmart

DEARBORN (WWJ) - A suspicious device caused a scare for shoppers Tuesday at a Dearborn PetSmart.

A bomb squad was called to the scene after a customer spotted it in the parking lot of the pet supply store, located at 5650 Mercury Drive near Ford Road, shortly after 5 p.m.

Dearborn Police Sgt. Paul Doulette told WWJ Newsradio 950 the device was found to be "inert" — but he wouldn't elaborate as to the nature of the object.

It's unclear who the device ended up outside PetSmart. Police had cleared the scene by 5:30 p.m., but an investigation continues.

The store was closed during the investigation but has since reopened.
