Boil Water Advisory Lifted For Residents In Southwest Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) - After days of living under a boil water advisory, residents in southwest Detroit can finally drink from their taps again.

Detroit Water and Sewerage Department lifted the advisory Saturday morning, saying the water was safe for drinking and cooking purposes.

The boil water advisory was issued on Wednesday, July 20 for residents living in the area between West Jefferson to the south, Vernor Highway to the north, Miller Road to the west, and Livernois to the east.

Officials say two rounds of multiple samples taken and tested by the Great Lakes Water Authority indicate the water meets the Safe Drinking Water Act, resulting in DWSD lifting the advisory.

DWSD issued the advisory after a three-and-a-half foot main broke early Wednesday morning, causing low pressure in the line.
