Body Pulled From Detroit River Near West Riverfront

DETROIT (WWJ) -- The body of an unidentified man was spotted and recovered from the Detroit River late on Monday morning.

The Detroit Police and Fire Marine units and the U.S. Coast Guard responded to the scene along the West Riverwalk, where they retrieved the body.

One fisherman watched the recovery and told WWJ Newsradio 950 that he didn't recognize the victim, but seemed familiar enough.

"He looks like a person I see down here quite often," the man said. "He sat on the bench for hours, always looking in the garbage can."

The body was first spotted near the Riverfront Towers by Joe Louis Arena, about a half mile from where it would be recovered.
