Body In Lansing River Ends Search For Man Missing For Months

LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Police in Lansing believe they have recovered the body of a missing man in the Grand River, a few weeks after a leg was discovered.

Spokesman Robert Merritt says the body appears to be that of Manuel Pena, missing since April. An autopsy will be performed. Pena's leg was found last month by a fisherman.

The latest discovery occurred Wednesday during a scheduled search for the 56-year-old Pena. The body of his girlfriend, Josephina Betancourt, was pulled from the Grand River in May.

The Lansing State Journal  says a local utility authorized the lowering of the river to find Pena's body.

A brother, Daniel Pena, says the discovery "gives ... some closure but it also opens up questions."
