Body Found In Burning Van In Pontiac Backyard

PONTIAC (WWJ) - An investigation is underway after a man's charred remains were found in a burning van in Pontiac.

Oakland County Sheriff's deputies, along with the Waterford Regional Fire Department, responded to the scene Monday afternoon on the 200 block of South Blvd. on reports of a vehicle fire. When it was extinguished, firefighters found the body.

The van was parked in the backyard of a home on South Boulevard for over a year, neighbors told investigators. When the owner of the van was located, Sheriff's officials said, she said she'd been trying to get rid of the vehicle for some time.

An autopsy is being conducted by the Oakland County Medical Examiner's Office Tuesday to determine a cause of death.

The victim was not immediately identified.

Deputies have been canvassing the neighborhood for evidence and witnesses in the case.
