Body found in Detroit's Mount Hazel Cemetery identified as missing 15-year-old, police say

Police investigate after teen's body found in Detroit cemetery

A body found in the Mount Hazel Cemetery on Thursday has been identified as 15-year-old Lawrence Dowl, who was reported missing earlier this week, according to police.

The body was found by someone who was visiting a loved one at the cemetery in the area of Clarita Street and Lahser Road. Police Captain Marcus Thrikill said the victim was wearing a ski mask and gloves and appeared to be young.

DPD's homicide unit is investigating, Thirkill said. The cause of death is unknown.

A neighbor who didn't want to go on camera told CBS News Detroit that she didn't see or hear anything out of the ordinary in the area in the hours before Dowl was found.

Dowl was reported missing on Aug. 12 from the 19900 block of Salem when he failed to return home after going to a friend's house. He was last seen wearing a black jacket, black jogging pants and black shoes.

Police did not release any additional information.
