Body Found Along Train Tracks In Southwest Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ) - A homicide investigation is underway after a woman's body was discovered near a set of railroad tracks in southwest Detroit.

The discovery was made Tuesday morning by a man walking to work near John Kronk Street and Martin Road, between Livernois and Central avenues.

Commander Whitney Walton said 30-year-old woman was found lying face down, but it's not clear if she was killed at that location or if her body was dumped there.

Other circumstances, including a possible cause of death, weren't immediately clear.

As an investigation continues, Walton said officers were going door-to-door asking questions and a K-9 team was searching the area.

"They always canvass for every incident trying to see if there's a witness anywhere," she told Sandra McNeill. "This is kind of a desolate area, so it's hard to find witnesses in this area."

"So anybody who was driving in this area, if they saw anything suspicious — even something that seems inconsequential — let us know."

Investigators believe the woman worked along Michigan Avenue. Her name was not immediately released.
