Black History: Detroit-Native Singer LRenee Living Her Dream
WWJ Newsradio 950 celebrates Black History Month by recognizing local young African American professionals and their heroes.
DETROIT (WWJ) - LRenee, a Detroit native, says she was singing before she could talk.
A graduate of Renaissance High School and Kentucky State University, has been working as a background vocalist for Universal Motown recording artist KEM.
She told WWJ Newsradio 950's Stephanie Davis it's been an amazing experience.
"We did a Christmas tour, and I had an opportunity to meet and work with Pattie LaBelle and Ron Isley, so life for me is more like a dream, kind of!"
"I have my dream job ... There are a lot of long hours, but it's definitely worth it, because I'm able to work within what I consider to be my purpose," LRenee said.
The singer-songwriter said she's inspired by President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama.
"They are definitely an inspiration," she said. "And especially me being a woman, and trying to be a pioneer in terms of becoming the first independent artist to win a Grammy from Detroit, Michigan, I can say that her strength and what she represents as an African American female is definitely an inspiration."
