Berkley City Council Tables Home Rezoning Request By Owners Of Vinsetta Garage

BERKLEY (WWJ) - It was a standing room only crowd Tuesday night in Berkley, as dozens of residents came out in opposition of a rezoning request by the owners of the popular Vinsetta Garage restaurant -- who hope to demolish three nearby homes they recently purchased to make room for additional customer parking.

"Since Vinsetta Garage has been opened, my street has been transformed into a congested restaurant parking nightmare," said one resident.

"You allow these properties to be torn down, the city isn't going to get more money, they're going to get less money," said one Berkley resident.

"While Vinsetta Garage owners have been praised for rescuing and restoring a historic building," said another city council meeting goer, "it continues to be at the expense of homeowners and the safety of our residential community."

In the end, the Berkley Planning Commission postponed a vote on the Vinsetta Garage rezoning request -- which has been tabled until next month.
