A man was found dead inside a garage after state police responded to domestic assault call in the Northern Michigan community of Whittemore.

The initial call was made about 3:45 p.m. Wednesday reporting an incident on North Street in Whittemore, according to the Michigan State Police report. The victim was able to leave the home despite serious, non-life threatening injuries; and was in good condition after receiving medical treatment.

In the meantime, the 45-year-old suspect barricaded himself inside the home.

Troopers from Michigan State Police West Branch Post got assistance from the MSP Emergency Support Team on the call. After several hours of attempting to make contact, troopers said, officers found the man, deceased, inside the attached garage.

The investigation is continuing.

The MSP says those who are experiencing domestic violence can call 211 to connect with resources in their area or call 911 in case of an emergency.
