Autopsy Pending For 7-Month-Old After Father Claims Accidental Head Injury

PONTIAC (WWJ) -- An autopsy is planned for a Pontiac baby who was taken to the hospital by his 18-year-old father last week.

The 18-year-old father told doctors and police that he had accidentally struck the baby's head on a railing. Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard disputes that claim.

"We launched a pretty detailed investigation and ultimately we believe these injuries to the 7-month-old were not accidental in nature," Bouchard said.

The baby died in a hospital on Saturday, but the autopsy was being delayed in order to donate the child's organs. Bouchard said that investigators do not believe the mother had anything to do with the child's death.

The father is under arrest on an unrelated warrant. Prosecutors plan to present their case against him after the autopsy.
