Auto Parts Supplier Plans $95 Million New Plant In Detroit

DETROIT (AP) - Auto parts supplier Flex-N-Gate plans to invest $95 million in a new Detroit plant that's expected to create at least 650 jobs.

The Detroit News reports the Michigan Strategic Fund approved a $3.5 million grant Tuesday for the project to help the company with brownfield development costs such as demolition, site preparation and power infrastructure.

The newspaper says up to 750 jobs could be created.

A memo from the Michigan Economic Development Corp. says the expansion is necessary because the supplier doesn't have room for added work from Ford Motor Co. at its existing plants. The 500,000-square-foot facility is to be built at an industrial park.

The MEDC and city of Detroit also are recommending Renaissance Zone approval for the company on the site in the future.
