Authorities: Worker Dies After Macomb Township Trench Collapse

MACOMB TOWNSHIP (AP) - Authorities say a 47-year-old worker died in a weekend trench collapse in suburban Detroit.

The Macomb Daily of Mount Clemens reports Alfred Garcia of Madison Heights died Saturday of injures while working at a new subdivision in Macomb Township.

According to investigators, Garcia was in a trench when the walls caved in and trapped him. He was taken to a hospital and died.

Macomb Township Fire Chief Robert Phillips says there was "really nothing we could do."

The death is under investigation.
