Authorities: Student Death At Michigan School 'Non-Violent'

YPSILANTI, Mich. (WWJ/AP) - Authorities say a student has died at a southeastern Michigan school but are offering few details.

Police and school officials say the Washtenaw International Middle Academy student died Wednesday afternoon at the Ypsilanti school. Ypsilanti Community Schools Superintendent Benjamin Edmondson said in a statement that it was a "tragic incident" of a "non-violent nature," but declined to elaborate.

He says they are cooperating with authorities and while classes will resume on Thursday, there will be counselors on hand to help students and staff who are grieving. The school was on lockdown during the incident.

The student hasn't been identified but officials say the district has contacted relatives.

The Associated Press left phone messages for police and school officials.
