Authorities: Slain 6-Month-Old Detroit Girl Was Shot In The Back

DETROIT (WWJ/AP) - Authorities say a 6-month-old girl slain in northwest Detroit over the weekend was shot in the back.

The Detroit News reported Monday that the Wayne County medical examiner's office, which conducted an autopsy on the child, ruled the infant's death a homicide.

It was not immediately known Monday if charges have been filed against two men detained for questioning in connection with the shooting Saturday that also left a 24-year-old man wounded.

Police say the infant, since identified as Miracle Murray, was in a yard with adults and other children outside a home, on Winthrop St. at Clarita Ave., when a man ran up and started shooting.

He later fled in a car, described by witnessed as a silver Saturn.

Police have said the shooting appears to be gang-related and may be connected to the fatal shooting of another small child, 3-Anaiya Denise Montgomery, on Easter Sunday.  Three people have been charged with murder in that case.

As an investigation continues, anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Detroit police.
