Authorities Release Name Of Man Fatally Shot Outside Eastland Mall

HARPER WOODS (WWJ/AP) - The Wayne County medical examiner's office has identified an 18-year-old man shot to death over the weekend outside at a metro Detroit mall.

Medical examiner's spokesman Lloyd Jackson said Monday in an email that Tyrell Lane was shot multiple times. His death has been ruled a homicide.

Lane was shot about 6 p.m. Saturday as he walked out of the Burlington Coat Factory at Eastland Center in Harper Woods, just northeast of Detroit. He later died at a hospital.

Police have said the shooting was not random.

A man initially was taken into custody in connection with the slaying, but later was released after being questioned by police.

After being placed on lockdown, the mall was closed to shoppers just before 8 p.m. Saturday, but has since reopened.
