Authorities: Man Suspected Of Fatally Shooting Mother, Self

HANDY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Authorities say the deaths of a 23-year-old man and his mother in Livingston County are being investigated as a suspected murder-suicide.

The sheriff's department says the man is believed to have shot his 43-year-old mother on Friday at a home in Handy Township before killing himself.

Deputies found them in the front yard of the home about 50 miles northwest of Detroit. WHMI-FM reports a handgun was recovered by investigators.

Undersheriff Michael Murphy tells the Livingston Daily Press & Argus of Howell that witnesses "corroborated the murder-suicide theory."

Names of those involved weren't released over the weekend by the sheriff's department. Autopsies were scheduled for Monday.
