Authorities Looking For Driver Who Struck Teen Crossing Metro Parkway [VIDEO]

HARRISON TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - The Macomb County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in identifying a driver who struck a teen on a bike and just kept going.

Sheriff's officials say the 15-year-old Clinton Township girl was trying to cross westbound Metropolitan Parkway (16 Mile Road) shortly before 8 a.m. on Thursday when she was hit by a car, just west of  Crocker Blvd. in Harrison Township.

The driver of that car — described as a dark-colored sedan, possibly a Chevy Malibu — did not stop at the scene, continuing westbound under the I-94 overpass. The car will likely have some front-end damage.

As seen on video from a pole-mounted traffic camera that partially captured the incident, a good Samaritan got out of her car to help the victim.

The injured teen was treated by EMS at the scene and then taken to a local hospital for further care. Sheriff's officials say she's since been released and is recuperating at home.

Authorities are now hoping a tip from the public will help them solve this case.

Anyone who may be able to identify the driver or who has any information that could help detectives is asked to call the Macomb County Sheriff's Office at 586-307-9412.
