Authorities Identify Woman Killed In Accident Involving A Tractor-Trailer

CLAM LAKE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - State police have identified a 24-year-old woman who died after being ejected from a speeding car that collided with a tractor-trailer in Michigan's northwestern Lower Peninsula.

State police tell The Grand Rapids Press that the victim was Nicole Popa of Caledonia.

They say she was sleeping in a car that was traveling southeast on M115 in Wexford County's Clam Lake Township about 5 a.m. Saturday when the male driver passed another vehicle. They say he lost control and hit the oncoming truck.

The crash site is about 40 miles south-southeast of Traverse City.

State police say the man fled but police later arrested him. They say they believe he was drunk, high on drugs or both.
He sustained minor injuries, and the semi's driver and passenger were unhurt.
