Authorities: Golf Pro, Wife Sold Bogus Michigan Course Memberships

BAY CITY, Mich. (AP) - A Michigan golf pro and his wife are facing embezzlement charges after authorities say they sold bogus golf course memberships.

The Bay City Times reports Brent and Ashley Goik were arraigned Tuesday on charges of embezzlement by an agent or trustee between $1,000 and $20,000 and false pretenses between $1,000 and $20,000. The felony charges are punishable by up to 5 years in prison.

The District Court in Bay City says Thursday that Brent Goik didn't have a lawyer on record. The Associated Press left a message seeking comment with a lawyer listed as representing his wife.

The charges stem from a state police investigation into sales of membership cards to the Bay County Golf Course in Hampton Township where Brent Goik worked. He was fired in February.
