Authorities: 60-Year-Old Man Runs Stop Sign, Dies In Monroe County Crash

RAISINVILLE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WWJ) - A 60-year-old man was killed and a 27-year-old woman was injured in a crash Tuesday morning in Monroe County.

Monroe County Sheriff Dale Malone says it happened at around 6 a.m. at the intersection of Stewart Road and Baldwin Road in Raisinville Township.

According to investigators, Lloyd Bastuba of Carleton, Michigan, was traveling westbound on Steward in a 2005 Chevy Cobalt when he failed to stop at the stop sign at Baldwin Road. As he went through the intersection, his car struck a 2015 Dodge pickup truck driven by a 27-year-old Maybee woman.

Bastuba was pronounced dead at the scene and the woman was taken by EMS to a hospital in nearby Toldeo, Ohio. She was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Both drivers involved were wearing their seatbelts and alcohol nor speed appear to have been a factor, Malone said. An investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information is asked to call 734-240-7715.
