'Barricaded Man' Surrenders To Auburn Hills Police; School Lockdown Lifted

AUBURN HILLS (WWJ) - A man who police say barricaded himself inside an Auburn Hills home has surrendered.

It started with reports of someone knocking on and trying to open doors of homes in a neighborhood near Opdyke and South Blvd., according to police.

When officers identified and tried to arrest the man, he fled into a house where he barricaded himself inside. An Oakland County Sheriff's Office spokesman said they assisted Auburn Hills police at the scene, where witnesses reported a heavy police presence, including a SWAT team, and officers with guns pointed.

Later Monday afternoon, the man was taken into custody without further incident, police said. No injuries were reported.

The incident triggered a lockdown at R. Grant Graham Elementary School, which is less than a mile away. That lockdown was lifted several hours later and students were dismissed, school officials said.

The suspect's name has not been released pending formal charges.
