AT&T To Be Carrier For HTC 'Selfie' Phone

By Edward Cardenas

SOUTHFIELD (CBS Detroit) - AT&T  will be the exclusive carrier for the HTC Desire EYE smart phone which has been called the 'selfie' phone with front and rear facing cameras that are both 13MP.

The HTC Desire EYE features a 5.2-inch full High Definition display (1080p) and a 2.3 GHz Quad-Core processor. But a feature which the social media-set will enjoy is the feature that will allow users to take 'selfies' in low-light settings.

The Desire EYE has a 13MP front facing wide-angle camera and dual LED flash. The front and rear facing 13MP cameras with motion tracking and voice-activated software allow users to capture more background and wider group shots with smile capture or voice command, according to AT&T.

It is also water-resistant up to one meter under water for 30 minutes.

In addition to the phone, HTC is also introducing the point and shoot  RE, a 146-degree, wide-angle lens that captures images in full view with a 16MP camera sensor and 1080p High Definition video. The RE integrates with both Android and iOS devices to back up photos and videos to the cloud.

Similar to the Desire EYE, the RE is also waterproof to up to one meter underwater for 30 minutes without a protective case. The hand-held camera can connect to smartphones with the companion RE application using Bluetooth, and content can be backed up to third-party cloud services such as Google Drive and Dropbox.

Both products will be released later this year, in time for the holiday. Pricing will also be released at a later date.
