ATM Stolen In Smash-And-Grab At Detroit Liquor Store

DETROIT (WWJ) - A Detroit liquor store was the target of smash-and-grab ATM robbers overnight.

The incident happened around 5 a.m. Wednesday at B&S Liquor and Grocery on Buchanan and McKinley streets, in a west side neighborhood along I-96 just south of Warren Avenue.

Police say the crook used a vehicle to smash through the front of the building. After taking out the storefront, the suspect hooked the ATM to a chain and pulled it away.

Investigators are now looking to see if the crime was caught on any nearby surveillance cameras.

Gail Liggens, who lives nearby, said the store seems to be a magnet for thieves.

"This is maybe about the fifteenth time over the course of several years. The back, sides, every which direction you can think of, it has been hit," Liggens told WWJ's Mike Campbell. "He was thinking about closing this place down. The only reason it's still open is because he's trying to keep a neighborhood store."

An investigation is ongoing.
