1 Dead, 2 Hurt In Multi-Vehicle US-23 Crash

MILAN, Mich. (WWJ) - At least one person has been killed and two others injured in an accident involving multiple semi-trucks and cars in Monroe County.

Northbound US-23 is expected to remain closed for several hours near Cone Road, Exit 22, south of Milan.

Police said four semis and three additional vehicles were caught in the wreck, late Wednesday morning, about halfway between Milan and Dundee.

Milan Township Supervisor Phil Heath said this stretch of pavement has had its share of issues, especially in the rain.

"If anybody travels 23, they know it," Heath told WWJ Newsradio 950. "You come down under the train tracks at Cone Road, you come under them at Milan again. There's two sets."

"There's been problems in the past with water pooling up underneath there and people hydroplaning," Heath said. "There's kind of a dip and a curve all combined together. It has a history...and you end up with a situation like this."

Fire crews and police are on the scene as an accident investigation and cleanup continues. The condition of those injured was not immediately known.

Drivers on northbound US 23 should exit the freeway at M-50 in Dundee and use Ann Arbor Rd. Plank Rd, County Line Rd. or Dennison Rd. to get around the scene.
