As Classic Cars Pass By, Dream Cruisers Reminisce About Their First Set Of Wheels

ROYAL OAK (WWJ) - Going to the Woodward Dream Cruise is like taking a step back in time for some.

As hundreds of thousands of spectators marveled at the hot rods passing by, many were left reminiscing about their very first cars.

"It was a '73 Corvette," said one man. "I was very lucky, I've had four Corvettes and I have one now. The '73 was the first one, I had a 2000, a '71 and a 2011 Grand Sport. You know, it's just a fun car."

"A Volare. Yes I did, I had a Volare," another man said with a laugh. "My sister gave it to me."

"A '76 Cutlass, red with a white top," said one enthusiast. "The ladies loved it!"

"Oh my god, it was a stick, it was a Vega," one woman said laughing. "I'm dating myself, right. I learned to drive on a stick so I have a passion for speed, but that wasn't a very fast car."

"It was so embarrassing, I got the old family station wagon," said another woman. "All my friends laughed at me but when everyone wanted to go to the same place together, you know who they called."

"I had a Mustang, brand new off the lot," one man said. "You couldn't get me out of that car."

"A '64 Pontiac GTO, and it's still in my garage today," said another man.

"A Vista Cruiser. That thing was a party wagon," one man said, grinning ear to ear.
