Apple Replacing Some iPhone 5 Batteries

SOUTHFIELD (CBS Detroit) - Apple is replacing a "very small percentage" of iPhone 5 batteries which are experiencing shorter battery life or need to be charged more frequently.
The technology company made the announcement on its website about the replacement program for affected iPhone
Apple has determined that a very small percentage of iPhone 5 devices that "may suddenly experience shorter battery life or need to be charged more frequently," according to the posting.
The affected iPhone 5s were sold between Sept. 2012 and Jan. 2013.
iPhone owners can check the serial number of their device on Apple's website. If the phone qualifies, Apple will replace the battery free of charge.
Apple added that the replacement program does not extend the warranty coverage of the iPhone 5.
According to an article in Forbes, Apple replaced several thousand iPhone 5s that had defective batteries. Apple also recalled 1.8 million battery packs for iBook and PowerBook laptop computers due to overheating problems.
