SOUTHFIELD (CBS Detroit) - IndyCar fans who can't make it to Indianapolis for the 500, or are looking to prepare for the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Detroit Grand Prix, can follow the action on the INDYCAR 15 app.

The free app, available on iOS and Android smart phones and tablets, offers Verizon IndyCar Series fans a variety of features including access to their favorite teams and drivers, views of real-time leader board and race highlights.

"Fans are essentially in the car with us, but I think it's the access that they have always wanted and always desired," said Verizon IndyCar Series driver Graham Rahal in a release.

Verizon customers have additional access in the app with exclusive content including live in-car camera video streaming, live driver and pit crew conversations, live INDYCAR radio broadcast streaming and car telemetry.

"Fans are essentially in the car with us, but I think it's the access that they have always wanted and always desired," said Verizon IndyCar Series driver, Graham Rahal, in a release. "It's definitely one of the perks to having a Verizon phone."

The Indianapolis 500 starts at noon Sunday. The IndyCar series comes to Detroit May 29-31.
