Annual Motor City Makeover Starts In 2 Detroit Neighborhoods

DETROIT (AP) — Volunteers will remove blight and work on beautifying two Detroit neighborhoods as part of the annual Motor City Makeover.

Cleanup events are scheduled Saturday in District 6 in southwest Detroit and District 7 on the city's west side.

Efforts include trash and debris removal, boarding up some vacant houses and flower planting.

People are encouraged to clean areas around their homes, businesses, churches and schools on the Saturdays designated for their neighborhoods. Motor City Makeover officials also encourage planting flowers, plants or trees.

Cleanups in other parts of the city are scheduled for later this month.
