An Artistic Marriage Of Stars Wars And Hockey Hits The Ice

ANN ARBOR (WWJ) - It'll be a culture clash as the worlds of hockey and Star Wars come together Saturday in Ann Arbor.

WWJ's Russ McNamara explains that it's a call any Star Wars fan with artistic talent would hope to field - being asked to design Darth Vader related-apparel.

In this case it's a hockey jersey with classic (Darth) Vader for the U.S. National under 18 team.

Darrin Brege, an illustrator of young adult books, was just that man for the job.

"He's in the goalie costume with the goalie pads, with the waffle pads and the bubble pad helmet," he said. "So, he's kind of like the goalie with the helmet."

There's also a Jar Jar Binks design: "No, the Jar Jar thing wouldn't work at all," he said. "We just say 'no' to that."

The hockey game is at the Ice Cube in Ann Arbor - the jersey will be auctioned off, with the proceeds going to Mott's Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor.

Brege, of Brighton,  illustrates young adult books that his wife Karen writes. MonsterMyths.com is where you can see more of their work.
