PONTIAC (WWJ) - An Amtrak train was shut down for more than two hours after striking a vehicle that was on a set of tracks in metro Detroit.

The accident happened around 10 p.m. Wednesday on South Boulevard just east of Woodward Avenue in Pontiac.

An Amtrak spokeswoman said the Wolverine passenger train was departing from Pontiac to Chicago when the incident occurred.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, a truck that went around the crossing gate was hit by the train. Witnesses told police that the crossing gate was down, and the lights and bells were working at the time of the crash.
