FERNDALE (WWJ) - As the big Valentine's Day weekend kicks off, a local dealership and animal shelter are teaming up to show love to dozens of dogs and cats.

Almost Home Animal Rescue League, a no-kill shelter in Southfield, is teaming up with Hodges Subaru to host the "Love is Blind" pet adoption event this Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The event will showcase pets that are often overlooked for adoption. Nicole Birmingham, with the shelter, said the event was inspired by a special pooch named Cricket.

"Cricket is an 11-year-old deaf and blind poodle, and he was found outside in the freezing cold this winter. His fur so matted, you couldn't even see his face," Birmingham told WWJ's Chrystal Knight. "We got him the medical attention that he needed and showed him some TLC and now, he's doing great."

The event will be held at the Hodges Subaru dealership in Ferndale on Woodward Avenue.
