Alcohol Possible Factor In Death Of Man Crossing 8 Mile In Royal Oak Twp.

ROYAL OAK TWP.  (WWJ) - Michigan State Police believe a man had been drinking before he was fatally struck while trying to cross 8 Mile Road in Royal Oak Township.

Police say the 28-year-old victim was running across the road — at around 11:35 a.m Sunday, near Meyers Rd. — when he was hit by a 2001 Ford pickup headed westbound on 8 Mile.

The man, identified by police as a Detroit resident, was taken to a local hospital where he later died of his injuries.

The driver of the pickup, a 39-year-old Detroit woman, stopped at the scene. Police say it was discovered that she was driving on a suspended license and had a warrant out for her arrest.

She was taken into custody on the warrant.

It was unclear what charges the woman may face in connection with the accident as an investigation by the MSP Metro North Post continues.

No names have been released.
