'Al The Octopus' Set To Return To The Roof Of The Joe Thursday

DETROIT – As part of the preparations for the Stanley Cup Playoffs at Joe Louis Arena, the installation of the giant 'Al the Octopus' will begin on Thursday at 10:30 a.m.

The eight-arm cephalopod that has signaled the quest for the Stanley Cup since 1952 will take its place on the roof of The Joe near the Gordie Howe Entrance.

In addition, the stairs leading up to the East and West Entrances of Joe Louis Arena are set to be transformed on Thursday at 10:30 a.m., to celebrate the Red Wings 25th consecutive season qualifying for the playoffs.

This year's new design features the names of all the players who donned the "Winged Wheel" during the team's historic streak and the large "25" logo in the center of the staircase.
