Plane Crash Takes Life Of 77-Year-Old Shelby Township Man

DETROIT (WWJ) - A Shelby Township man is dead after the plane he was flying crashed Wednesday outside Indianapolis, Indiana.

Ren Sagaert, 77, had taken off from a grass airstrip in Bartholomew County. He crashed in the town of Hartsville and was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy is set scheduled for tomorrow.

A witness says he heard the plane's engine start, then cut out, followed by a "big bang."

Sagaert was the only person on board.
