After Three Days On The Run, Authorities Capture Escaped Monroe Inmate

MONROE (WWJ) -- An escaped Monroe County Jail inmate is back in custody after three days on the run.

The Monroe County Sheriff said that George Wingle, 27, was working in the community near the Fraternal Order of Police Hall on Strausburg Road just south of Custer Road, around 9:45 a.m. Friday when he escaped.

Police say Wingle walked away and was picked up in a red Ford Escape that they believe was driven by his girlfriend.

Wingle was found in Detroit by the Police Special Operations Unit and the Michigan Department of Corrections Absconder Recovery Unit. He was serving time for possession of narcotics and was due to be released next month when he escaped.

Wingle will later be charged in the escape.
