ALLEN PARK (CBS DETROIT) -- Second-round draft pick Kyle Van Noy left Monday's training camp practice with a trainer, and while the linebacker eventually returned to the practice field, coaches kept him on the sidelines.

"We won't know a whole lot until tomorrow," Lions head coach Jim Caldwell said. "We took a good look at it and it looks like he's got, obviously you can see, a little bit of an injury to his thumb, but we'll see how he goes here the rest of the week."

Van Noy, a rookie, wanted to return to play, but Caldwell said they felt it best that he stay out.

"Each and every situation is a little different," Caldwell said. "In his particular case, we thought that was the best option."

Van Noy, however, expects to be back practicing Tuesday.

"Everything's all right," Van Noy said. "Just had a little minor issue, so just going to move forward tomorrow. I'll be back out there."
