A Year In Prison For Massage Therapist In Assault Case

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) - A massage therapist in Grand Rapids has been sentenced to at least a year in prison after pleading no contest to third-degree criminal sexual conduct.

John Ashby was in court Thursday in Kent County, six weeks after his no-contest plea. The 54-year-old was accused of assaulting a 41-year-old woman during her first massage session with him last February.

Ashby will get credit for 107 days in jail. He'll be eligible for parole after a year. His maximum punishment is 15 years in prison.

The spa is now closed. A charge was also filed against another massage therapist.
