9-Year-Old Canton Girl Killed In Accident Outside School

CANTON (WWJ) - Police in Canton are investigating the tragic death of a 9-year-old girl outside an elementary school.

Police Sgt. Jim Harrison told WWJ Newsradio 950 it happened Monday when the girl was being dropped off by a parent at Eriksson Elementary School on Haggerty Road.

"The initial call was that a young girl may have attempted to get back in the vehicle and was subsequently dragged or struck by the vehicle as it pulled away," Harrison said.

Police said the girl was taken by paramedics to the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor where she died,

Her name was not immediately released.

Police believe the child's death was accidental, and the Canton Police Department's accident investigation team was interviewing witnesses, Monday afternoon.
