9-Year-Old Boy Fatally Shot In Chest; Police Believe Children Were Playing With Gun

DETROIT (WWJ) -- Detroit Police investigators are trying to determine what led to the fatal shooting of a 9-year-old child on the city's west side on Saturday.

The shooting took place on Northlawn St. near Puritan on Saturday afternoon. Early reports indicate that three children under the age of 14 were in the home alone when the young boy was shot in the chest. The child was rushed to Sinai Grace Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

No adults were home at the time of the shooting.

There is no word on any charges as police try to sort out if the boy shot himself or was shot by another child in the home at the time.
