84-Year-Old Clings To Life After Being Struck By Car Outside Hospital

DETROIT (WWJ) - An 84-year-old man is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle just moments after he was released from the hospital.

The accident happened around 6:50 p.m. Tuesday in the 4100 block of John R., between Mack Avenue and Canfield Street.

The man had just left Harper University Hospital and was in the crosswalk across John R. when he was struck by an oncoming vehicle. The driver, a pregnant 26-year-old woman, immediately pulled over and called police.

The man, whose name was not released, was rushed to the hospital where he was last reported in critical condition.

The woman appeared to be uninjured, but was taken to the hospital for evaluation.

Reports say street lights in the area were not turned on at the time, which might have contributed to the crash.

The incident remains under investigation.
