8-Year-Old Shot On Detroit's East Side

DETROIT (WWJ) - An 8-year-old child is in critical condition after being shot while at a home on Detroit's east side.

The shooting happened just before 11 p.m. Wednesday at a home on Evanston and Greensboro streets, in a neighborhood off of I-94 and Outer Drive.

Police said several children, ages 8-12, were playing in a second-floor bedroom in the front of the house when the shooting happened.

The boy, who was shot in the back of the neck, was taken to a local hospital in temporary-serious condition.

Police believe the shot came from outside the home. Sgt. Michael Woody told reporters that based on the bullet's trajectory, it appears to have been a stray round.

An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact police at 313-596-5940 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
