73-Year-Old Man In Serious Condition After Driving Into The Back Of A Garbage Truck

WEST BLOOMFIELD (WWJ) -- A major Oakland County roadway was closed for hours on Monday afternoon for an accident investigation following a crash involving a garbage truck.

Middlebelt was closed at Walnut Lake for three hours after a 73-year-old man drove his van into the back of the truck which was loading garbage. West Bloomfield Township Fire Marshall Pat Riney told WWJ Newsradio 950 that the man remains in the hospital.

"He was conscious and alert on the scene, but he did have what the crews felt were some significant injuries that needed attention," Riney said.

Riney said that the man was pinned in the vehicle for some period of time before crews released him.
