7-Year-Old The Self-Proclaimed "Chief Fun Officer"
DETROIT (WWJ) -- If you're heading down to the new East Side Riverfront grand re-opening you will -- hopefully-- have a good time, and if you don't, you'll be taken into custody.
Inside the Mount Elliot Park and Pavilion Fun Shop, 7-year-old Abby Dwyer doesn't mess around when it comes to having fun.
"I'm in charge of the people having fun," Dwyer said. "I have handcuffs and I'm not afraid to use them."
The hard working 2nd grader is part-owner of the shop and has a unique business model.
"If they're not having enough fun, I take the handcuffs and I arrest them," Dwyer said. "I'm the fun police and the chief fun officer."
Abby's mom, Sharlene, feel about her daughters way to sell kites, light up toys -- bubble wands?
"My daughter is going to be a brilliant businesswoman," Dwyer said.
Elected officials, community groups and residents gathered along the Detroit riverfront for the ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the Mt. Elliott Park and Pavilion.
The park is the newest access point to the river, which for many years was inaccessible due to development and private landowners.
This is the third plaza and pavilion to be developed during the nearly 10-year effort by the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy to develop pathways, parks and green space along the nearly three-mile stretch of riverfront in Detroit.
The park features fishing piers, walkways, restrooms, a cafe and the centerpiece – a water park with a Great Lakes schooner-themed water feature with water cannons, waterfalls and waters sprays.
