7-Year-Old Girl Calls Police After Mom's Babysitting Boyfriend Fires Gun [911 Call]

PONTIAC (WWJ) - Authorities say a 7-year-old girl called 911 to report a shooting after her mom's boyfriend opened fire while babysitting the girl and her younger brothers.

The incident happened around 2 a.m. Sunday at the North Hill Farms Apartments on Cherry Hill Drive, not far from North Telegraph Road and Dixie Highway in Pontiac.

"Can you send the police, please," the girl asks the operator. "He's like, he shot the gun through the floor and stuff."

The girl told police that her mother's 22-year-old boyfriend, Dijan Lamar, was babysitting her and her brothers, ages 2 and 1. One of the boys had asked Lamar if the gun in his waistband was real, according to police. In response, police say Lamar pulled out the gun, racked it and fired one round into the apartment floor.

Oakland County Sheriff's deputies responded to the scene placed Lamar in custody. Deputies were unable to locate the handgun, but were able to locate evidence of where the firearm had been discharged and recovered bullet fragments, including a spent shell casing.

Police asked Lamar what happened to the weapon and he told them that he threw the gun in the sewer, but would not say where. The weapon could not be located after an extensive search, police said.

The children were uninjured. They were left in the custody of their mother, who returned to the scene.

Child Protective Services has been notified of the incident, which remains under investigation.

Lamar was arraigned Tuesday on charges of discharge of a firearm in a building (10 year felony), carry a concealed weapon (5 year felony), and possession of a firearm by a felon (5 year felony). He was ordered held on a $50,000 cash surety bond and is due back in court on February 18.

Police say Lamar has a criminal history that includes convictions for retail fraud and possession of a controlled substance.
